I have for some time now believed that courage is a scarce commodity. It is hoarded by a select few while a vast majority aspires to acquire some measure of it someday. But like most things, I was wrong about this as well.

Conspicuous displays of valour are not the only manifestations of courage. The quiet perseverance to face life’s daily grind demands inexhaustible reserves of courage as well. The average individual does not have the luxury of subscribing to courage as and when he faces an almighty challenge in life. He needs to dig deep every day, grab whatever fistful of courage he can get his fingers on and face the day. Facing challenges that show up on everyone’s doorstep, is it really courage though? Most people do it, surely it is not an anomaly. Well, it is an anomaly because most of us never acknowledge our strength and fortitude required to do so. We do not acknowledge a trait that has been the very essence of sustaining life.

It is important to give yourself credit for,

It requires courage to show up every day,

It requires courage to live with discomfort as your daily companion,

It requires courage to defy your loved ones,

It requires courage to choose your own path,

It requires courage to sacrifice your well-being for others,

It requires courage to acknowledge your mistakes,

It requires courage to challenges your closely held beliefs,

It requires courage to smile when you don’t want to,

It requires courage to try again,

It requires courage to be kind.

Courage may not be our constant companion but it sings to us in our time of need. Courage may not be ceaseless but it is fleeting, just enough to keep us going. To my fellow voyagers, navigating life, I tip my hat to your courage! Keep fighting the good fight, if not you who will?
